The Sunday Scroll #143
bedazzling is back, micro-vacations are worth considering, and apparently younger women are tanning again... what!
Happy Sunday! If you’re new here, welcome. I write personal essays here on Thursdays, and every Sunday I send the Sunday Scroll — a weekly roundup that lands in your inbox by 7am with a handful of things that caught my eye. Articles, essays, products, books, and more. Perfect for scrolling away while you sip your morning coffee. (I keep a running note on my iPhone that I’m constantly adding to, and this is where it all lands.)
For those of you who’ve been around a while, we’ve folded Book Club and Emily’s Edit content into Sunday Scrolls too, so all the good stuff lives in one place. (This week’s Thursday essay was a good one — and this recent post went viral on Instagram and shot straight to the top of my most-read list.)
Around here, this was our first full week of summer, and it feels good for the structure of the school year to fall away. We’re packing up to head to the lake for a few weeks — I cannot wait. Enjoy the scroll!
I’ll be the first to admit I am not an avid soccer fan, but this piece on the hidden cost of traveling as a NWSL player and mom reminded me a lot of my own reflections on the impossible math of modern motherhood.
Apparently young people are tanning again, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. (Especially when there are so many good alternatives on the market).
The case for taking shorter family trips (aka a micro-cation!)
A 90s kind of summer sounds exactly like what we all need right now.
If you’re already planning your fourth of July outfit, how fun would this red polka dot dress be?! I also spotted this gingham dress and this cute shift!
The surprising mental health benefits of bedazzling (file this under: a new analog hobby to explore. Caroline has been doing this and LOVES it!)
I shared these in stories last week, but the pillows I swear by are 2 for under $100 and I’m convinced they cannot be beat. Sometimes less is more.
A very fun 2026 summer reading guide!
Loved this older post from Julia Dzafic on the vulnerability of asking for help. I’m crowdsourcing for an upcoming Substack post on what other women actually outsource and the responses are FASCINATING (335 so far!). Contribute anonymously here.
Speaking of reading, Grace Atwood was featured in Voices at the Table sharing really great tips on how to read more. Glad we are on the same page that audiobooks count!
These have been selling like crazy at Simplified this week! Seems summer is upon us!
What I’m reading:
The God of the Woods by Liz Moore - guys, I just could not get into this book. I swear I have a mental block because so many loved it!
Burnout by Emily Nagoski and Amelia Nagoski - A wonderful and a quick read. Written by sisters who understand the science of burnout and how to heal from it.
The Anniversary by Alex Finlay - Loved this one. A quick page turner.
Drowning in Paper Flowers by E.L. Westbury - wasn’t my favorite. The author uses so many metaphors, they became a distraction. I should have read the reviews!
Next up: The Burning Side by Sarah Damoff + Dissection of a Murder by Jo Murray.
Coming next week:
This post on How to Be a Person Camp continues to be not only one of my most popular Substack posts, but something I get asked about often (remember when GMA covered it?!) As you know, this year we’ve officially got three "big kids” so I’m excited to share more next week on How to Be a Person Camp: Teenage Edition. The idea is still the same, just built for older kids.

This was such a fun read! Jo’s restack brought me here and I really enjoyed it.
Curious if you’ve tried Loving Tan? I’m going to a wedding next weekend and need a good tanner. I liked St Tropez years ago, but I’m not sure if it’s changed
Thank you so much Emily for mentioning my article, A 90s Kind of Summer, you’ve made my day!! And a big yes, it’s definitely something we all need right now ☺️
I really enjoyed reading The Sunday Scroll and all of the different articles that you shared, what a brilliant idea and super inspiring!
