I loved this article!! Having been a longtime simplified planner fan, I recently switched to an academic (!!) calendar year and am becoming much more intentional with carving out sacred time to plan my week on Sundays, and follow through daily. Having started this Substack and blog, I am leveraging my weekly Dapperdesk (which wasn’t working for my as I had hoped) for content planning and “brain dumping”. Love this community and the work you do, Em!
I have a weekly Simplified Planner, and I use the notes pages in the back to do a weekly review. I look back over my planner, online calendar, and journal, then I write down a few bullet points of what I want to remember or reflect on from the week. Then, I use what I've learned or noticed from the week before as I plan the week ahead. I love having it all in one place!
I love this!! I have been a paper planner gal since I was in grade school. I have changed how i have used my planner in different seasons of life but use it every day. I love having all my appointments and to do in one place and i love that i can see everything in one spot. It makes living life so much easier!
Sooo... I had convinced myself I wasn't going to buy a planner this launch, because though I had, and loved, and used my weekly Dapperdesk last year, I didn't use it consistently enough. So, I was going to let it go this year. But you just said something really important here, that maybe was a genius marketing ploy 😉 or maybe it is just true: when I took the time to slow down and plan in my planner, I could see ahead, take the mental snapshots, and visually see the space I had for the other things I wanted to fit in (workouts, girls night out, etc). It actually did help me make time for what matters most. Now to decide, black tie or sea salt?! 🖤
I was in the same place last year. I designated a time to plan every week (Sunday morning for me) and had designated time(s) of the day to check in with my planner and it made a huge difference in my use. I was torn between sea salt and black tie also. I went with sea salt (after letting my kids influence my decision and I love it) but I wish I’d picked black tie. After reading this post maybe I’ll order the black tie weekly for meal planning and I’ll be satisfied lol!
I've been a paper planner girl since I was a kid. I was actually a school year gal until 2023 when I left education and decided it was time for a calendar year planner. Now I find myself in transition again as my work schedule does not affect my personal time and I don't need even the space in a weekly planner. So I'm currently working on a monthly calendar and notebook combo with an old Simplified Gardening Planner I had but never used. Using the month so I can see events, appts, etc, but then using the note pages in between for my to do lists. I've found not everything needs a certain day, it just needs to happen that week. September is my first month to try so I'm going to see how it goes. And hopefully at some point invest in an actual planner that has this ability. Also the only time I used a digital calendar was for one job and I didn't have a choice and it worked because I could also block out my time for when I was not available. And I only updated my personal planner for work each week so I knew what my week looked like.
I’m switching from a daily to a weekly this year. The daily was great for work from home, but now that I’m back in the office three days a week, I’m realizing I need to see my whole week at once to know how to juggle all the things. I’ve previously used a weekly in college while working full time for the same reasons, so I’m excited to switch it up!
