Why, oh WHY is it so hard to be a tween? Especially a tween girl.

Do you remember what that was like? When you slowly realized your group of friends were going off by themselves, and you weren’t invited to join them? Or when that girl got to watch PG-13 movies (!) and you couldn’t watch anything above a PG?

I’m not sure why it happens at this age, but when girls hit the tween years, they become very, very aware of the experiences their friends and peers are having—especially if they’re different from what they’re doing themselves. And as a parent, some of the experiences the other girls are having aren’t on your agenda for your girl—and won’t be for a very long time.

Remember how we begged our moms for the things we couldn’t have? The newest set of LipSmackers? The latest Janet Jackson CD? To go to the movie theater to see The Bodyguard (or, if you’re a younger Millennial, Titanic)? A razor so you could shave your legs?! (Omg, I cut the back of my knee so badly the first time…)

Remember how your mom didn’t say yes to everything you asked for and you just couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t let you do or have this thing? And you vowed to yourself that if you ever had a daughter, you would understand because of this great injustice done to you?

Oh, how the tables have turned. 😜
