Tomorrow my babies are ten. TEN. Truly, the days are long (so long) and the years are short (so very short). It's not just another birthday – it’s realizing your kids are taking some really big steps towards growing all the way up. The stuffed animals start sharing their spot on the bed with big books and makeup. Playground stories start mixing with talks about friendship and big dreams. Sometimes I find myself just watching them across the dinner table, wondering how my little ones turned into these amazing people who are suddenly so... themselves.
Ten is this beautiful in-between time – when our kids are starting to lean toward their future teenage selves while still holding tight to their little-kid hearts. They're old enough now to really soak in special moments, but still young enough to feel the wonder of it all. When my oldest turned ten, I knew I wanted to do something really special to celebrate. We needed a tradition that would help our kids see how far they've come and feel all the love that surrounds them as they step into this next chapter.
