Sunday Scroll #153
on the internet getting smaller, Kate Spade's empire, and *that* thriller list
Happy Sunday! It’s been a week of back to school prep over here. Oh, and our air conditioner went out, in August, during a heat wave. That was fun. But we’re all cooled off now, back packs are packed, supplies are labelled, and tenth and sixth grades start this week. Hope you are all staying cool while getting back into the swing of things yourselves. Enjoy your scroll!
I felt very seen by this article by Jen Hatmaker. What it costs us to stay too long. What happens when we avoid the conversation, the change, the discomfort of honoring ourselves.
I recently purchased this SharkNinja “at home hydrating facial” tool and its great. I’m a big fan of hydrafacials and I think this is about to save me a lot of time and money.
Is the internet getting smaller again? I hope so. It seems, according to hannah bay that people are choosing voices of platforms. Again.
The comment section of this post from Cup of Jo is beautiful. What’s the Best Non-Physical Compliment You’ve Ever Received? 120 readers (as of writing this newsletter) shared theirs. Lovely standouts include, “I like the sound of your laugh,” and “You’re the only mother who’s never made me feel bad about not having children.”
Emptied and repurchased the Dr. Brandt Wrinkle Release Serum. It has that cryo-cooling feeling (minty) and is super hydrating. I use it around my eyes.
I’m sure you’ve seen all the discussion about the “No Influencers” sign in a Nantucket shop. Well, I thought this was an interesting take from Gabrielle Blair over on Alt Summit’s Substack. A New Socially Acceptable Way to Hate Women. What’s your take?
The New York Times announced the 50 best thrillers of the twenty first century. I do agree with many of these! The full article is behind a paywall, but the list is shared on the NYT’s Instagram page too. Time to add to your TBR pile.
Heard of Jimothy? The darling racoon with an extra short neck took the internet by storm last month. He’s so cute! Here’s his entire story as told by the marketing who first caught him on camera.
I am living in two things these last few days of (HOT) summer: these loose, comfy jeans and these super soft shorts. If you’re jeans shopping for fall, here are my three daily-wear favorites in order: these ankle barrel jeans from Mother, the Secret Sauce jeans from AYR (their most universally loved fit), and the viral $50 barrel jeans from Quince (2.5k stars for a reason).
Sending kids back to school soon? Borrow this advice from Jen Hatmaker. I remind myself of this every single year. And it has saved us from many a melt-down.
If you were an early 2000s Kate Spade devotee like I was, you may love this deep dive: The Tragic Double Life of Kate Spade’s $124M Downfall from Old Money Luxury.
My friend (and Director of Content Marketing at Simplified) Lindsey Greubel wrote the most beautiful post in honor of her mom’s milestone birthday. 60 Things I’ve Learned From My Mom. These made me reflect on what I’ve learned from my own mom and what I’m teaching my kids.

Interesting article about Kate Spade. I am a devoted fan still! I had never thought about the psychology of selling a company/brand named after yourself.
I love Jen Hatmaker! She always has such great advice and wisdom!
