Sunday Scroll #109
The nicest celebrities, bold style pieces, apple cinnamon sheet cake, and what your favorite grocery store says about you
Good morning, and Happy Sunday! How are you this morning?
Tbh, I’m feeling a swirl of emotions today. I’m having a hysterectomy this week. And while I’m looking forward to saying goodbye to the pain that has plagued me for years, I’m reluctant to say goodbye to this chapter of my life and embrace a new way of living in my body. I’ve heard from so many of you who have been through the same thing, how much better you feel on the other side. Thank you for showing me the future that’s waiting for me! I feel so much better because of your stories. And thank you for every kind word y’all have sent me this week. I am so lucky to have a loving community on here.
I’m also lucky to have them in real life. This week, inspired by Elyse Myers who’s also going through the same thing, a trip I’d already planned with friends to see Jen Hatmaker and Dr. Mary Claire Haver speak in Houston was converted into a going-away party for my uterus. 😂🎊 These are the same women who are going to help Bryan and me keep our lives going with meals and memes and pickups and so many things in between. A community that shows up for you when you need them most? 10/10.
Anyway. I’ll check in with you guys when I can. Wish me luck? xo
Welp, I’m not sure how to gracefully transition to the Scroll after that. So. Let’s go scrolling!!!
I don’t know about you. But when I see an article called 6 ways to stay calm when life feels uncertain, according to therapists, I click on it so fast. And you know what? This is actually really good, really basic, and (most importantly) really doable advice. These are my mantras for the next few weeks.
Really holding onto the idea of joyful anticipation and how it can help us weather the hardest moments.
Are you a seasonal reader? It’s kinda fun to do, especially this time of year. It makes me feel the season a little more deeply.
11 small wellness habits that make a big impact. When you want to make a small change to feel better, but you’re not sure where to start, try just one of the habits and see how you feel.
Do you have a favorite grocery store? This is why you like it so much. So fascinating, tbh.
Am I secretly hoping someone will bring me this Apple Cinnamon Texas Sheet Cake while I’m on bed rest? Yes.
Have you seen the show Couples Therapy? I mean, having couples counseling for the entire world to see? Talk about brave. But what happens when the cameras go off, and the world is shown your edited therapy story? For one couple, it . . . wasn’t so great.
The best insurance policy against burnout? Getting a hobby. 100%!!!
Who is the nicest celebrity you’ve ever met? You need to scroll through this entire carousel and through the comments! It’s just wonderful! I’m going to bookmark this for whenever I’m in a bad mood, I just love it so much.
We recreated Downton Abbey’s best moments—with dogs. So absurd but so delightful. 🤣
For me, this is a week about being brave. And while I can’t wear these pieces in the OR (can you imagine??), I slip these on when I need a little “bold woman energy.”

This jacket. Y’all. THIS JACKET! When I put this on, I feel like I can do anything. And that is not an exaggeration. So bold. So pretty. It has the most beautiful details.
I will never shut up about these shoes. Ever. I’ve never met a more comfortable pump in my life. Trust me, they’re worth the investment!! (Psst: as I’m writing, I can see my discount link is still active when you put these in your cart!).
These gold hoops are one of my favorite earrings sets! They put a little polish in every outfit and have just enough heft to say “I’m here!” without being overly heavy. Plus, I love the braided detail.
October is the best month—there, I said it. Crisp air, spooky season, apple cider, fall festivals, bowls of chili, pumpkin everything. There’s so much to love!
Life tends to start ramping up this time of year. More appointments, more tasks, more things to get done before the end of the year. So many times I’ve looked at my planner in disbelief: How did we get to October already!?
If you want to simplify the season so you can settle more into fall joys, Team Simplified’s got you! They put together a guide for simplifying your season so you can soak up every autumn moment. Yes, please!
PS: what’s your favorite track from Life of a Showgirl??? Mine is “Eldest Daugther.” Because of course. 🧡🧡
Talk soon, you guys!
Hope the surgery goes well ❤️!
Be gentle with yourself this week, Emily. Sending prayers for an uncomplicated procedure and a smooth recovery!
