Big goals have been fresh on my mind this January. You too? Well, perhaps we have two of them in common: 1) Get organized. 2) Save money. Did you know these two goals are connected in about a billion ways? Let me back up and tell you a story.
A few weekends ago, following along with our 2024 Simplicity Challenge, I decided to declutter and reorganize our pantry. Over coffee that Sunday morning, I told Bryan about my plan for the day. He was not thrilled. (“But how,” I thought! “Who is not immediately thrilled about a day of decluttering and organizing canned goods?!” I am a strange breed, I know). I digress. His response:
“Great [sigh]. Throwing away stuff we paid for so we can buy more stuff we’re not gonna use.”
“Oh no, no, no!” I said emphatically. “In fact, organizing the pantry is all about the opposite! My goal is to get our grocery bill down this week”
He did not believe me.
Let me back out of this story and explain the how and the why. Here are a few ways decluttering and getting organized can actually SAVE you money.
